Gyros
Evo recept za giros. Upam, da razumeš angleško. A ja, pita kruh lahko kupiš v lokalih Gyros v Ljubljani, alhko ga pa tudi sama spečeš. Bom našla recepr in ti ga poslala.
Lamb Gyros
Total preparation and cooking time: 30 minutes
Cucumber Yogurt Sauce (recipe below)
1 pound lean ground lamb
2 cloves garlic
1 1/2 teaspoons dried oregano leaves, crushed
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon salt
3/4 teaspoon pepper
1 large tomato, cut in half and then into slices
1 small onion, thinly sliced
4 whole pita pocket breads, cut in half, warmed
Prepare Cucumber Yogurt Sauce: cover and refrigerate.
In a large bowl, combine lamb, garlic, dried oregano leaves, onion powder, salt and pepper; mix lightly but thoroughly. Shape into two oval 1/2-inch thick patties.
Place patties on rack in broiler pan so surface of meat is 3 to 4 inches from heat. Broil 8 to 10 minutes or until no longer pink, turning once. Carve each patty into thin slices. Place equal amounts of lamb, tomato and onion in each pita half; serve with Cucumber Yogurt Sauce. Serves 4.
Cucumber Yogurt Sauce
8-ounce carton plain low-fat yogurt
1/3 cup seeded, chopped cucumber
2 tablespoons finely chopped onion
1 clove garlic, crushed
1 teaspoon sugar
In medium bowl, combine all ingredients; mix well. Serve with Lamb Gyros.
Nutrition facts per serving (2 filled pita halves and 1/4 cup sauce): 472 calories, 30 grams pro., 44 grams carbohydrates, 19 grams fat, 3.9 milligrams iron, 970 milligrams sodium, 86 milligrams cholesterol.
Pita Bread
1 package active dry yeast, or equivalent
1 1/4 cup warm water
3 cups flour
2 tsp salt
Dissolve yeast in water. Stir in flour and salt. Knead on a floured
surface until smooth (about 5 minutes). Divide into six balls and
knead each until smooth and elastic. Flatten each to 1/4″ thick and
4-5 inches in diameter. Cover with a damp towel and let rise for 45
minutes. Place upside down on a cookie sheet and bake at 500 degrees
for 10-15 minutes, until light brown. These work well with whole-wheat
flour too.

Jaz pa ti povem čisto enostaven recept! Tudi jaz namreč obužujem Gyros!
Pojdi v Špar ali če boš kaj hodila po Avstriji imajo skoraj v vsaki trgovini, pri nas pa vem samo za Špar oziroma Interšpar (ljubljana, Kranj). Tam imajo mešanico začimb za Gyros. Na isti polici kot so juhice in začimbice za na rimer golaž. Nato kupi več vrst mesa, jaz vzamem goveje, svijnsko, lahko tudi ovčje, telečje….saj veš, da pravi gyros nima svinine.
Nato meso narežeš na tanke šnite tako, kot na primer dolge tanke rezance za juho, debeline pol centimetra, to dosežeš najbolj, če daš meso malo zmrzniti. Nato vliješ čez meso mešanico začimb (zmešan z vodo) in pustiš vsaj eno uro! Nato prepraži čebulo, česen na olju in nato dodaj meso in zelo dolgo praži, najmanj pol ure! Če hočeš imeti bolj ostri okus, potem praži samo 15 minut in gotovo!
Zraven ti priporočam pomfri in solato, ali pa kuhan riž, ki ga nato preliješ z prepraženim česnom na maslu in peteršiljem!
