Krščanska ločina, živeča v v ameriški zvezni državi Pensilavniji, znani so pa po tem, da ne sprejemajo novodobnih tehničnih dobrin in novosti, tako se še vedno vozijo s kočijami,hrano pridelujejo sami in po starem, ne kupujujejo v supemarketih, kot večina Američanov, zelo verni s strogo socialno hierarhijo, poročajo se med sabo – mislim s pripadniki lastne vere, skratka, zelo hermetična skupnost. Bojo še drugi kaj dodali!

Ta fenomen se imenuje rumspringa.
Youth, courting, and Rumspringa
Rumspringa (Pennsylvania German lit. “running around”) is the period of adolescence that begins the time of serious courtship, and, during which, church rules may be relaxed. As in non-Amish families, it is understood that there will likely be a certain amount of misbehavior, but it is neither encouraged nor overlooked. At the end of this period, Amish young adults are baptized into the church, and usually marry a spouse, with marriage only being permitted among church members. Just a small percentage of the young people choose not to join the church, deciding to live the rest of their lives in wider society and marrying someone outside the community.[28]
The age for courting begins at sixteen (in some communities, the girl could be as young as fourteen). The most common event for boy-girl association is the bi-weekly Sunday evening sing, however the youth use sewing-bees, frolics, and weddings for other opportunities. The sing is often at the same house or barn as the Sunday morning service. Teens may arrive from several close-by districts, thus providing socialization on a wider scale than from a single church.[29]
On the day of the sing, and after the chores are over, the young man dresses in his for-gut clothes, makes his appearance neat, and ensures his buggy and horse are clean. A sister, or sister’s friend may ride with him, but usually not his girlfriend. At the sing, boys are on one side of a long table, the girls on the other side. Each person is able to announce their choice of a hymn, and only the faster ones are chosen. Conversation takes place between songs. The formal end of the sing is about ten o’clock, after which there is a great deal of talking, joking, and visiting. The boys who don’t have a girlfriend, may pair up with a Maidel (girl).[30] Following this, the boy takes the girl home in his open topped courting buggy.
Marrying a first-cousin isn’t allowed among the Amish, and second-cousin relationships are frowned upon, though they may occur. Marriage to a “Schwartz” cousin (first cousin once removed) is not permitted in Lancaster County.
The onset of courtship is usually not openly discussed within the family or among friends. Excessive teasing by siblings or friends at the wrong time is considered invasive. Respecting privacy, or at least pretending not to know, is a prevailing mode of behavior, even among parents.[31]

število zlorab žensk in otrok med njimi je izredno visoko, saj si le redko kdo upa zlorabo sploh prijaviti, ker bo v takem primeru izločen in izobčen. (excommunicated and shun)
kaj se zgodi z otrokom, ki ga socialno izolirajo, pa menda ni potrebno razlagat.
Mislim da ravno zato, ker je to tako zaprta skupnost in se potem vse pomete pod preprogo znotraj skupnosti. Pa tudi ženske mislim, da so bolj stroji za rojevanje in gospodinjska opravila,glavno besedo v družini in skupnosti ima(-jo) moški. Je pa res, da ji to “nekako zagotavlja materialno in socialno varnost”.

Čeprav, je pa poleg teh negativnih vidikov tudi kak pozitiven (ne gre za romantiko, ampak čisto za realno predstavo). Kar se meni zdi pozitivno pri njih, je to, da imajo kritičen odnos do družbe, ki jih obdaja – potrošniške itd. In da jim to vztrajanje pri svojih vrednotah ratuje že toliko časa.
Predvsem se mi zdi njihova drža aktualna v temle času, ko take in drugačne krize kar kličejo k ponovnemu premisleku vrednot. Ekološka je itak odsev pogoltnosti naše družbe.
Po drugi strani pa je seveda res, da pretirana konzervativnost tudi zna roditi marsikako nasilje nad šibkejšimi …
Spet po tretji strani pa: mislim, da se tudi v naši družbi dogaja mnogo preveč zlorab – še posebej, ker se imamo za tako liberalne …

Pa poznaš mogoče kako raziskavo, lahko v angleščini, ki bi kaj več omenjala glede nasilja pri njih?
Komuna Amišev pri šestnajstih letih dovoli človeku, da zapusti njihovo skupnost, da si lahko ogleda zunanji svet in ga ‘preizkusi’. Lahko vozi avto, pije alkohol, živi razvratno življenje… Potem pa se mora odločiti ali bo tako nadaljeval, ali pa se bo vrnil v komuno in živel asketsko življenje amišev. Ta pojav se imenuje Rumspringa in ga film Devil’s playground odlično prikaže. Avtorica je Lucy Walker, film je prejel nagrado na festivalu Karlovy Vary za najboljši dokumentarni film ter nagrado na festivalu Sarasota in še dve nominaciji za Emmy Awards ter Indipendent Spirit za najboljši dokmentarni film in najboljši solo izdelek).
