The hospital in Ingelheim has to close at the end of the year. According to the mayor of the city, new jobs are to be found as soon as possible for the 190 employees.
In the town hall of the city of Ingelheim it is already being checked whether employees in the administration of the clinic could be taken over, so Mayor Ralf Claus (SPD). The same applies to technical employees. He also contacted companies and businesses in the area and asked them to check whether they could also employ hospital staff. The aim must be that no one who loses his job in the clinic remains unemployed.
For the medical and nursing staff, the chances of continued employment are good. The Catholic Clinic and the Mainz University Medical Center informed SWR that they needed staff in these areas.
Specialists should ensure outpatient care
Claus had already announced on Wednesday that the city would do everything possible to improve outpatient medical care for the people in Ingelheim. To this end, specialists should be discussed about settlement. The aim should be that the local people can be treated in Ingelheim and do not always have to travel to Mainz.
45 people left in the hospital
45 people are currently being treated as inpatients at the Ingelheim hospital. According to the clinic, these will either be discharged in good health by the end of the year or transferred to other hospitals in the area. A spokesman for the Marienhaus Society, which operates the Catholic Clinic in Mainz, among other things, told the SWR that if patients had to be taken on, this would not be a problem at all with the appropriate prior planning.
No investor in sight
The Verdi union reported on Tuesday that an investor had finally failed to take over the clinic, which had run into financial difficulties . The insolvency administrator tried everything, said the chairwoman of the works council, Stefanie Klemann, the SWR. Ultimately, however, there was no interested party in the Ingelheim hospital.
Lord Mayor Claus said the closure was to be expected. Even after the Ingelheim city council decided to leave the hospital, numerous potential investors still looked at the clinic. However, everyone decided against investing any money. Putting the hospital on a profitable footing is simply not possible. It is too small for that.
